Fried Onion Rings 5 Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 onions, thickly sliced (1/2") (large)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 3 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 Eggs, beaten
  • Cooking oil
Directions
Separate onions into rings. Soak in buttermilk overnight. Mix flour, cornmeal, onion powder, salt and sugar. Combine milk and eggs and add to dry mixture. Heat oil to 375° in large pot. Oil needs to be at least 2" deep (3" is better). Dip onion rings in batter and drop into oil. Fry about 1 minute and then flip. Fry another minute. Drain on paper towel. Do not crowd the pot. Cook four or five rings at a time.
