| | Directions | | Separate onions into rings. Soak in buttermilk overnight. Mix flour, cornmeal, onion powder, salt and sugar. Combine milk and eggs and add to dry mixture. Heat oil to 375° in large pot. Oil needs to be at least 2" deep (3" is better). Dip onion rings in batter and drop into oil. Fry about 1 minute and then flip. Fry another minute. Drain on paper towel. Do not crowd the pot. Cook four or five rings at a time. |
