Make cake according to package directions and bake in a 9 x 13 inch pan.
Once cooled, cut cake into squares and crumble.
Prepare pudding according to package directions for pie.
Crush Skor candy with the side of a meat mallet before opening wrappers.
In a trifle dish, layer crumbled cake squares, pudding, Cool Whip, and crushed Skor bars.
Make 8 layers ending with the crushed Skor bars on top; refrigerate until ready to serve.
Note: A 3-quart trifle dish uses the entire cake, 3 packages of pudding, and 3 small containers of Cool Whip plus more candy. A 2-quart trifle dish uses 2/3 of the cake, 2 packages of pudding, 2 small (or 1 large) cartons of Cool Whip, and 4 to 6 candy bars.
Variation: You can substitute the candy bar and cake. For example, you can make a white cake and use Danish Dessert and fruit in place of the candy bar and garnish the top with fruit. You can also replace the candy bar with mint cookies.
