Sourdough Bread 7 Recipe

Ingredients
  • Starter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet yeast
  • 3 tablespoons instant potato flakes
  • 1 cup very warm water
  • Bread
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup corn or vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup starter (stir before measuring)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 6 cups all purpose flour (prefer bread flour)
Directions
Starter: **NO METAL, PLASTIC & WOOD ONLY**

In a PLASTIC bowl, mix 3/4 cup sugar, 1 packet of yeast, 3 tablespoons of instant potato flakes, then stir in 1 cup very warm water. Mix well with WOODEN or PLASTIC spoon. Set lid on bowl loosely & let sit out on the counter for 8-12 hours. It will only bubble - look foamy.

In a very large bowl mix the bread ingredients. Batter will be stiff & sticky. Cover with plastic wrap & let sit out overnight on the counter.

The next morning, punch down dough & knead a few times (you will need quite a bit of flour on the counter & a little shortening on your hands will keep it from sticking too much). Divide dough into 3 equal sections & knead each portion on floured board about 10 times.

Put each in a greased loaf pan & stretch over the bottom. You can also make into rolls by dividing a section into 12 pieces & placing on a pan. Brush loaves with a little oil, cover with plastic wrap & put in a warm place to rise for another 5 hours.

Bake at 325-350 for 30-45 minutes or until a dark golden brown. Remove from pan & brush with a little butter.
