Ingredients
  • APPLE LAYER:
  • 10 cups sliced apples
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons soft margarine
  • BATTER:
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons margarine
  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
Container: 9 x 13 baking dish or pan

  • Mix all ingredients in apple layer together and put in bottom of a large cake pan.
  • For batter, mix everything, except for the eggs, into oleo; then beat in eggs.
  • Drop batter by tablespoons over apples.
  • Bake at 350° for 1 hour. Test apples for doneness.

"I think this would have been better if I had used Granny Smith apples. It turned out kind of dry and I think the Granny Smiths would make it a little juicier and a little more flavorful."
