Mom's Famous Chili Recipe

Brown sugar sweetens this chili up to perfection. But the Worcestershire sauce gives it a depth of flavor that will taste like its been cooking all day. Serve it beside grilled cheese and saltine crackers.

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced (large)
  • 3 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 quart tomato juice
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 cans chili beans (15.5 ounce cans)
In a large pot, brown ground beef with onion and celery. Drain.

Add salt, vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Simmer 20-30 minutes.

Add tomato juice, chili powder, and beans. Simmer another 30 minutes or longer.
