Chili Sauce with Apples Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 cups tart apples, (Granny Smith, gala), chopped 1/4 inch
  • 1 cup celery, chopped 1/4 inch
  • 6 ounces apple cider vinegar
  • 6 ounces water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped onion, 1/4 inch
  • 2 red bell peppers, chopped 1/4 inch
  • 2 green bell peppers, chopped 1/4 inch
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 quarts tomatoes, skinned (8 cups or 25 large plum tomatoes), seeded and diced 1/4 inch
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 2 teaspoons celery seed
  • 2 hot peppers, optional
Directions
Place all ingredients into a large saucepan and stir. Bring to a boil and cook about 1-1/2 to 3 hours, until thickened.

Makes 5 pints.
