The green flesh kiwi is an egg-sized berry with a brown, furry skin and green flesh. It is also known as Chinese gooseberry. Its flavor resembles berries and melons. Although native to China, they are grown in other parts of the world, especially New Zealand. The gold flesh kiwi is another variety, very similar to the green, but with a smoother outer skin that covers a golden orange inner flesh. To check for ripeness, press with a fingertip and the fruit should yield when gentle pressure is applied. Kiwi can be stored in the refrigerator and will continue to ripen. They should be peeled before eating.

Baby kiwi is a cousin to the kiwi and when cut open it is very similar. The baby kiwi has a smooth edible green skin and a much sweeter flavor. They have a limited season and a short shelf-life of 7 to 14 days from harvest.
