New York Strip with Zesty Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Ingredients
  • BARBECUE SAUCE:
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons whiskey
  • 1 tablespoon steak sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic - chopped
  • 1 pinch each of salt and pepper
  • NEW YORK STRIPS:
  • 4 New York Strip steaks - cut one inch thick
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary - finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper
Container: Grill, small bowl, small saucepan

BARBECUE SAUCE:
  • Whisk all of the sauce ingredients together in a saucepan with 1/2 cup of water.
  • Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally.
NEW YORK STRIPS:
  • Trim off any excess fat from the steaks as desired.
  • Let the steaks stand at room temperature for 20 minutes before grilling.
  • Chop the garlic.
  • Sprinkle kosher salt onto the garlic. With the flat side of a knife blade, crush the garlic and salt together to create a paste.
  • Mix this paste in a small bowl with the oil, rosemary and pepper.
  • Rub this mixture onto both sides of the steaks.
  • Heat the grill to medium.
  • Grill for 6 minutes, turning once, for medium rare. For medium, grill for 8 minutes.
  • Serve hot off the grill with barbecue sauce.
