Grandma's Red, White, and Blue Dessert Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons Grated Lemon Rind
  • 5 cups blueberries
  • 8 ounces soft cream cheese
  • 1 container Cool Whip (regular container)
  • 1 teaspoon almond or vanilla flavoring
  • 2 cups Fresh strawberries
Directions
Crust

Mix the butter, brown sugar, and flour together for a crumbly dough.

Press into an 8 x 12 inch pan.

Bake at 350° for 10 minutes, then allow to cool.

First Layer

Combine sugar, cornstarch, and lemon rind in a sauce pan.

Add blueberries and mix gently.

Bring the blueberry mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and cook 3 minutes or until thick.

Allow the blueberry filling to cool.

Second Layer

Whip the cream cheese, Cool Whip, and flavoring together with wire whisk.

Third Layer

Cut strawberries in halves.

Spread the cooled blueberry mixture on top of the crust.

Spread the cream cheese mixture on top of the cooled blueberries.

Lay the strawberry halves on top of the cream cheese layer (be creative as you like!).

Refrigerate for two hours, then enjoy!

(Prep time is about 30 minutes.)
