Alabama Biscuit Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup shortening
Directions
Mix dry milk with warm water. Save enough milk to soften yeast. Add melted shortening and other ingredients; mix thoroughly. Let rise until double in bulk, about 45 minutes. Turn dough on floured board and knead enough to handle. Cut with biscuit cutter and place on greased pan. Let rise until double. Brush with butter. Bake at 400°.

PARKER HOUSE STYLE ROLLS: Cut with biscuit cutter. Spread with soft butter on half of a circle. Grease middle of each roll with dull edge of knife. Place on greased pan and brush with melted butter and bake.

Makes delicious cinnamon rolls.
