Descriptor for young (typically red) wines that do not freely disclose their character. Some refer to this as the "awakward phase", when the wine is just a few years old. Flavor and aromas are concealed temporarily. It is believed that further aging and exposure to air will bring out the hidden character. Also referred to as “Dumb” or "Closed-in".
