Turbinado sugar, which is refined slightly more than demerara sugar, is a raw sugar cleaned by a steam process that removes contaminants in order to make it an edible product. The sugar crystals are coarse and have an ivory or pale tan color. The sugar has a subtle flavor resembling a milder version of molasses. Turbinado sugar can be substituted for demerara sugar.
