Marble Squares Recipe

Ingredients
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 ounces chocolate chips

  • Grease and flour a 10- x 15-inch baking pan.
  • In a small bowl, blend the cream cheese, 1/3 cup sugar, and 1 egg. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan, heat the butter, unsweetened chocolate, and water over low heat. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, 2 cups sugar, 2 eggs, sour cream, baking soda, and salt. Mix well; then add the cooled chocolate mixture and mix well.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan; then spoon the cream cheese mixture over the batter.
  • With a knife, slice through the topping and batter in a random pattern. (Slice as much or as little as you desire.) This will produce the marbling effect.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips on the top and bake at 350ºF for 25 to 40 minutes.
  • Cool and cut into squares.
