Sourdough Bread 10 Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 cups rye flour
  • 2 tablespoons caraway seeds
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1 can malt liquor beer (no substitutes)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°

In a large bowl, combine flour, rye flour, caraway seeds, salt, sugar and yeast. Mix well.

In a small saucepan over low heat, place beer. Heat until beer is lukewarm.

In a glass measuring cup, combine water and butter. Heat in microwave until butter is melted.

Add lukewarm beer and melted butter mixture to dry ingredients. Mix well. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured flat surface. Knead dough and place in a bowl. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise until dough has doubled in size.

Grease 2 loaf pans and sprinkle with cornmeal. Punch down dough and divide into two sections. Place one section in each pan. Cover dough and let rise again.

Bake in oven for about 45 minutes.

Makes 2 loaves.
