Beef Shepherd Pie Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup frozen onions, thaw and drain
  • 1 tablespoon prepared minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 cups mixed frozen vegetables, drained
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 cups mashed potatoes, instant
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)

  • Preheat oven 375º F.
  • In large skillet, brown ground beef, onions, and garlic. Add seasonings and cook until meat is no longer pink.
  • Add flour and continue cooking 1 to 2 minutes. Slowly add broth. Bring to a full boil, then reduce heat and simmer 8-10 minutes.
  • Stir in mixed vegetables and remove from heat. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour into baking dish.
  • Prepare instant potatoes according to package directions. Add butter and beaten egg to prepared potatoes. Spread potato mixture over meat mixture. Garnish with grated cheese and sprinkle paprika over top.
  • Bake 25 minutes or until cheese has melted and potatoes are a light golden brown.
