Beef Shepherd Pie - Recipe

Browned meat and vegetables are smothered in rich mashed potatoes for a quick throw together family dinner.

Beef Shepherd Pie Recipe
  • Preheat oven 375º F.
  • In large skillet, brown ground beef, onions, and garlic. Add seasonings and cook until meat is no longer pink.
  • Add flour and continue cooking 1 to 2 minutes. Slowly add broth. Bring to a full boil, then reduce heat and simmer 8-10 minutes.
  • Stir in mixed vegetables and remove from heat. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour into baking dish.
  • Prepare instant potatoes according to package directions. Add butter and beaten egg to prepared potatoes. Spread potato mixture over meat mixture. Garnish with grated cheese and sprinkle paprika over top.
  • Bake 25 minutes or until cheese has melted and potatoes are a light golden brown.

-1 cup frozen onions, thaw and drain
-1 tablespoon prepared minced garlic
-1 teaspoon dried thyme
-1 teaspoon dried sage
-1 teaspoon ground cumin
-1/3 cup all purpose flour
-1 cup beef broth
-2 cups mixed frozen vegetables, drained
-1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
-6 cups mashed potatoes, instant
-2 teaspoons butter
- salt and pepper to taste
-1 egg, beaten
-1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
-1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
