Sift flour, measure, re-sift with sugar and salt. In a saucepan, put margarine, water and cocoa. Bring to a boil and pour over flour and sugar mixture. In another bowl, mix eggs, soda, buttermilk and vanilla. Add to above mixture and mix well. Bake in a greased and floured shallow cake pan. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes. Start icing the last 5 minutes cake is baking.
Icing:
1/2 c. margarine
6 T. milk
1/2 c. pecans, chopped
3 T. cocoa
1 box confectioners sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix margarine, cocoa and milk in saucepan. Heat over low flame, but do not boil. Remove from heat and add confectioners sugar, pecans and vanilla. Mix well. Frost cake as soon as removed from oven. Cut cake in squares to serve.
