Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter - softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar, granulated
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs - separated
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, cream together shortening with 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Mix in 2 yolks, vanilla and water. Gradually stir in flour, baking powder and baking soda.
  • In a smaller bowl, beat egg whites until stiff. Add in remaining 1 cup brown sugar.
  • Pat dough into 15x10 jelly roll pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and gently push into dough.
  • Spread egg whites over it and place in preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • Cut into squares while still warm dipping knife blade into a glass of water between cuts.
