  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 1/2 cup Maraschino cherry juice
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 jar Maraschino cherries, halved, reserving juice (12 ounce jar)
  • FROSTING:
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup Maraschino cherry juice

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cream the butter and sugar together in a bowl.

Add egg, almond extract and cherry juice; beat well.

Add the flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking soda and baking powder and stir until smooth.

Drop spoonfuls of dough onto prepared baking sheet. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press a cherry half in center of each.

Bake in preheated oven for 8-10 minutes.

Cool on pan for 2 minutes then move cookies to cool entirely on a wire rack.

For frosting, in a saucepan, heat chocolate chips and condensed milk until chips are melted. Stir in cherry juice. Drizzle cooled cookies with frosting.

"My husband is a huge fan of chocolate covered cherries so these were a huge hit. I even loved these! The glaze makes a whole bunch! I doubled the cookies, but left the glaze as it is and still had way too much glaze leftover."
