Cracker Jacks Recipe

Remember those little boxes with the sailor on the front and the little surprise inside? Well, since they're hard to find now, make your own at home. This sweet coated popcorn will have you reminiscing about the old days.

Ingredients
  • 2 gallons popped popcorn
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 pound butter or margarine
  • 1 cup raw peanuts (optional)
  • 1 cup Karo syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
  • Boil the brown sugar, butter, peanuts, and syrup for 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat; add baking soda and vanilla. Pour over popcorn and stir.
  • Bake in shallow pan for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Cool and crumble.

"This recipe is a lot like my caramel popcorn recipe except for the peanuts and vanilla. I made this for card club the other night and everyone liked it. They thought the peanuts added a little crunch and extra flavor. I guess I will have to make it again."
