Today I am going to demonstrate how to peel the skin from tomatoes. For more information on tomatoes, visit Recipetips.com. Start by washing your tomatoes under cold water to be sure you have all the dirt and debris removed. The next step is to take a knife and make a small X at the bottom of each tomato. That is going to help loosen the skin from the tomato. Next we are going to put these tomatoes in a pot of boiling water. Place each tomato into a pot of boiling water for approximately 30 seconds. That will be enough time to loosen the skin from the tomato. Remember to have a bowl of ice water nearby so we can put the tomatoes in there when they are done cooking. After 30 seconds remove the tomatoes with a slotted spoon into an ice water bath, that will stop the cooking process of the tomatoes. A sign that the tomatoes have been in the boiling water long enough is when the skin starts to peel away. The next thing you want to do is to remove the core from the tomatoes. Place the point of your knife into the tomato and work your way around the core and then just remove the skin from each tomato and you are ready to go. Once the tomatoes have been peeled they are ready to can, use in pasta sauces or other recipes. For more information on preparing tomatoes, visit Recipetips.com.
