Puffed Fried Bread (Poori Indian bread) Recipe

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • oil, for frying
Heat oil to 350°.

Mix salt with flour; add water and mix into soft dough.

Add melted butter and work dough until smooth and elastic. Let dough rest 10 min.

Break off pieces of dough, the size of walnuts. Then flatten into about 4" circles. Put into hot oil, a few at a time and cook until golden and puffy; 30 seconds on first side, 10 seconds on back. Drain on towel. Serve warm.
