Martha Rolls Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk, scalded (do not boil)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
Directions
Mix shortening and sugar; add to scalded milk. Dissolve yeast in warm water; ad to lukewarm milk mixture. Cover and set aside for 2 hours. Let double in bulk. Beating constantly, sift in enough flour to make consistency of cake batter. Sift flour, salt, baking powder and soda to form bulky flour mixture. Set in refrigerator to cool. Pinch off and roll small balls in melted butter. Set aside to rise. Bake in 450 oven until brown.
