Ham Bean or Pea Soup Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 ham bone
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 7 bay leaves
  • 1 package navy beans or dried green peas (wash them first)
  • 2 carrots, chopped (medium)
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
Directions
Put ham bone, onion, bay leaves, and beans in a kettle (with enough water to cover it), bring to boil, then turn on low for 3-4 hours. When the peas or beans are getting soft, remove bone and add carrot and celery and cook until the carrots are soft. Then cut the meat from the ham bone. It may be salty from the ham bone. Otherwise, add salt and pepper to season. Remove bay leaves before serving.
