  • 3/4 cup Open Pit Barbecue Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 4 pounds chicken - cut into pieces
  • Combine all ingredients in small saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
  • Bring the sauce to a boil and then turn down the heat so sauce is at a simmer. Simmer until the barbecue sauce thickens slightly.
  • Preheat the grill on high.
  • Coat the pieces of chicken with oil and then place on the preheated grill.
  • Baste the top side of the chicken, cover the grill, and turn down to medium.
  • Turn the chicken about every 5 to 6 minutes and baste the top with sauce each time.
  • Continue to cook, turn, and baste every 5 to 6 minutes until the chicken is done.
  • This recipe makes about 1 cup, enough for 3 to 4 lbs. of cut up chicken.

"This was pretty good barbecued chicken. I liked that it was basted with the barbecue sauce throughout the grilling time. I think I should have simmered the sauce longer to thicken it more because I left it on low on the burner while I was grilling and by the end of grilling it had thickened to the way I thought it should be."
