Shown below are more tips on packing a lunch safely.
- Be sure to wash your hands between handling different foods to eliminate cross contamination.
- Use hot soapy water when cleaning hands and any utensils.
- Be sure to store hot and cold foods in proper insulated containers.
- Do not re-use plastic bags or wraps.
- If making up sandwiches the night before be sure to refrigerate them until you are packing the lunchbox for school.
- Play it safe by packing non-perishable foods, such as peanut butter, bread, nuts, cereal, pre-packaged fruit, dried fruit, unopened canned fruit, crackers, cookies, some cheeses, unopened pudding cups, whole fresh fruits and vegetables that have not been cut open, and unopened juices.
