Preserving a Jack-o-Lantern

Once you have carved your Halloween Jack-O-Lantern you want to keep it looking fresh for as long as possible. Depending on weather conditions, a carved pumpkin typically last from 1 - 7 days. As previously stated, the carved pumpkin can be sprayed with a mild mixture of household bleach and water to kill the organisms that cause rotting but there are other options for extending the life of your carved pumpkin that may also work for you. A couple of options are listed below.

• There are products available on the market that can be sprayed onto your pumpkin, or that you can dip your pumpkin into.
• An "at home" option is to rub petroleum jelly onto all cut surfaces.
