Crispier Baked Potato Skins

To enjoy crispier baked potato skins, lightly coat the skins with oil or butter before baking. Do not wrap in foil. The foil traps the moisture in the potato, creating a mushy, wet textured potato with soft skins.

Crispier Baked Potato Skins

If you enjoy a baked potato with a crispy skin, when the potato is done, scoop out the potato to enjoy with your meal and then add a tab of butter to the hot crispy skins. When the butter melts, pick up the potato skins and enjoy this crispy treat. Follow baking instruction below.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Scrub potatoes and remove any blemishes.
  • Poke each potato through skin with a fork. The holes allow steam to escape, preventing the potatoes from bursting, and help produce dry and fluffy potatoes.
  • Lightly coat the skins with oil or butter.
  • Bake for approximately 1 hour, until potatoes are tender when poked with a fork. Time will vary depending on the size of the potatoes.
  • If baking with other food that requires baking at 350°F, increase cooking time 20 to 30 minutes for the potatoes.
