Cooked Cabbage for St. Patrick's Day

Cabbage can be cooked in many ways for your St. Patrick's Day dinner but if you just want to enjoy it as a side dish to a main course, use the directions below for great results.
  • Shred cabbage as desired.
  • Cabbage should be boiled in just a small amount of water. Add 1/2 to 3/4 inch of water to a saucepan and bring to a boil before adding the cabbage. Add shredded cabbage and cook uncovered.
  • Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes. If cooking wedges, cook for 10 to 15 minutes. Check several times through out cooking time to ensure that the cabbage does not become overcook. Cabbage is done when just tender.
  • When done remove cabbage with a slotted spoon or drain in a colander to remove water. Season as desired and serve while warm.
