An hors d'oeuvre made with spreadable cheese that is blended or covered with a variety of other ingredients to enhance the flavor of the cheese. Other food items such as herbs, nuts, fruit, or meat are often used as toppings, coverings, or mixed into the soft cheese content for use in making the cheese ball more flavorful. All of the ingredients are then formed into a round "ball" shape to be placed on a plate for serving with crackers or pretzels.
