APPLE PIE 62 Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • dash of salt
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 stick margarine (Fleischmanns Original)
  • 4 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled & sliced (other tart apples or Comstock Pie Apples)
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 1/4 cup orange juice, chilled
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
Combine 2 cups flour and salt. Cut in Crisco with two knives or pastry cutter. Cut until crumbly. Add orange juice. Stir until ball forms. /divide dough in two parts. Roll out one part into a circle on floured surface (handle dough as little as possible). Transfer dough to bottom of 9-inch or 10-inch, deep dish pie plate. Add apples. Mix together sugar flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg; spread on top of apples. Slice stick of margarine into about 12 pats and spread over sugar mixture. Sprinkle vanilla over mixture. Roll out the other half of dough. Cut into 1-inch strips and place in crisscross pattern over top of pie mixture. Bake at 425° for 15 minutes, then lower oven temperature to 325° and bake for 35 minutes or until pie is golden brown.
