Sourdough Starter 7 Recipe

  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water 105°-115°
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups warm water
Dissolve yeast in 1/2 C. of warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes. Combine flour, sugar, and salt in glass bowl. Gradually stir in 2 C. warm water. Stir in yeast mixture. Cover loosely with plastic wrap. Let stand in a warm place (85°) for 72 hours, stirring 3 times daily. Then place in a refrigerator, stirring once a day. Use starter within 11 days.

To use, remove starter from refrigerator, let stand at room temp for at least one hour. Stir well. Measure amount needed for recipe. Before returning starter to refrigerator, feed it starter food: 1 C. all purpose flour, 1/2 C. sugar, 1 C. milk. Stir well. Place in refrigerator. Stir once a day. Use again within 2-14 days.
