Ingredients
1/4 cup pickling salt
2 tablespoons alum powder
4 cups vinegar
1 ounce pickling spices
8 cups sugar
1 teaspoon celery seed
Directions
Add pickles to a container that will hold 1 gallon. Soak pickles in salted water overnight. Remove pickles from liquid and wash. Put the pickles back into the container, cover with water and add alum powder, let sit overnight. Remove pickles from liquid and wash. Add pickles back to container and pour in vinegar. Add pickling spice to a square of cheesecloth and tie. Add to the pickles and vinegar, let sit for 8 days. Pour off vinegar and remove spice bad. Add 8 cups of sugar and 1 tsp. of celery seed and place in refrigerator. Let sit for 30 days and pickles will be ready to serve.
