Baked Alaska

A dessert prepared with a layer of sponge cake topped with a thick slice of ice cream and then covered with meringue. It is placed into a hot oven just long enough to brown the meringue but not so long that the ice cream completely melts. The dessert should be served immediately after removal from the oven. It can also be accompanied with fruit sauce such as raspberry or cherry.
