Tamarillo

An egg shaped fruit that has a smooth thin skin that varies in color, including red, gold and amber. The red variety has a reddish-golden flesh, which is more tart than the gold and amber varieties. The gold and amber varieties have a slightly tart flavored flesh which is gold in color. The fruit is approximately three inches in length and contains several small seeds. With the tamarillo's tangy but sweet flavor, it is used as a fruit or vegetable and is best when cooked.
