A fried food that is common in the middle eastern countries such as India. Known as a fritter in the U.S., a Pakora may be formed as a small round patty or simply take the shape of the combined ingredients, becoming irregularly-shaped if small strands of vegetables are added to the contents. Some of the typical ingredients for a vegetable Pakora may include chickpea or gram flour, cayenne pepper, cumin seeds, cilantro, bell peppers, chile peppers, carrots, cauliflower, eggplant, spinach, onions, mushrooms, potatoes, and various seasonings. Pakora can also be made with meats such as chicken. When made with spinach they are referred to as Palak Pakora. Paneer Pakora is made with cottage cheese while Pyaz Pakora is made with onions.

In India, Pakora is often served as a snack which is referred to Punjabi and eaten with tea. The Pakora is generally provided as one food among many others such as samosas, kebabs and flatbreads which are accompanied with a dipping sauce.
