A small, magenta-colored berry with a tart flavor harvested from low growing shrubs that are commonly found in Great Britain and northern Europe. It is popular in jams, syrups, and desserts and is also known as the bilberry or huckleberry. In the United States, the whortleberry is often mistaken for a blueberry, but they are slightly smaller and are more tart than the blueberry.
