Breadfruit

Native to the Pacific regions, it is a round tropical fruit with a thick green, mottled skin that grows from 1 to 7 pounds in weight. The off-white, bland tasting inner flesh has a texture similar to bread and is very starchy. Breadfruit is usually eaten raw like other fruits after it ripens. If picked prior to ripening, it is very sweet and is then baked, boiled, fried, or grilled, similar to a potato, to be served as a vegetable.
