Don't throw that tough-skinned asparagus away. Peel the skin with a vegetable peeler and then cook the asparagus as you normally would.
To quick peel one or two tomatoes, cut them in half and place face down on a microwave safe plate. Microwave for 5 minutes and the skins should peel off easily.
