Split Pea with Ham Soup Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 ham bone
  • 1 gallon water
  • 2 cups onion, chopped
  • 2 cups celery, chopped
  • 2 - 4 cup carrots, diced
  • 2 - 4 cup potatoes, diced
  • 2 pounds split peas
  • 2 - 4 cup ham, cubed(inch addition to ham bone)
Directions
In a large saucepan, cook ham bone in water until meat comes off the bone. Strain broth, reserve meat. When ham is cool enough to handle, remove fat and cut meat into bite-size pieces. Add onion, celery, carrots, and potatoes to broth and bring to a boil. Cook until tender. Add ham (from the bone and additional) to soup. Add peas and simmer until peas break down.
