  • 4 cups tomato juice
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 2 tablespoons green pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon onion, grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

In a large pot, put the tomato juice, cloves, Worcestershire sauce and sugar.

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, uncooked rice, pepper, salt, celery salt, green pepper, onion and garlic. Mix well. Shape into small balls and place into tomato juice mixture.

Simmer for 1 hour or until done. Remove cloves before serving.

"I liked the thick sauce. It was a little too cinnamony for my kids, so I will cut back on the cloves next time. I simmered for longer than the hour and most of my rice came out of the meatballs, but it was delicious just the same."
