GARLIC BROCCOLI (ADAPTED FROM SOUTHERN LIVING) Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 pounds Fresh Broccoli
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon water
Directions
Prepare broccoli by separating into spears and chopping (or discarding coarse stems). Set aside. Combine sesame and vegetable oils. Heat until hot but not smoking. (I use the microwave, heating for 30-60 seconds.) Add red pepper and let it sit for 10 minutes. To oils, add remaining ingredients except broccoli; stir and set aside. Place broccoli in a steamer basket over boiling water and cook for 5 minutes or until crisp tender. (This may also be cooked in the microwave, if desired.) Toss cooked broccoli with oil mixture. Serve hot, room temperature or cold.
