Smothered Round Steak & Onions Recipe

Inexpensive round steak is tender and covered in a rich sauce. Serve this over noodles and with some bread to mop up any sauce that is on your plate.

  • 2 pounds round steak
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • GRAVY:
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
Cut round steak into serving size portions. Salt, pepper and dredge meat in flour. Brown meat on both sides really well in small amount of oil.

Place meat in a dish to one side.

For the gravy, add flour to pan drippings, scraping to release bits from bottom of pan. Add beef broth and stir until thickened.

In a casserole dish, layer meat and onion rings until all are used. Pour gravy over top of this, cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
