1) A French term used to refer to a bread appetizer that has been buttered and covered with jam, honey, melted cheese, or other similar ingredients. The bread may be a baguette or simply small slices covered with some type of food or food spread that may be one ingredient or several mixed together. It may also refer to a slice of bread referred to as a fruit loaf, containing dried fruits and at times spreadable jams.

2) A small tart that may contain fruit or some other type of sweet or savory fillings.
