An liqueur made from the extract of almonds and/or apricots, giving it a distinctively sweet, almond flavor. Originally made in Italy, this after dinner drink is now produced in the U.S. as well. Amaretto is also a common ingredient used in cakes, sweet desserts and flavoring cookies.
