| | Directions | | Combine bread and milk and let soak 10 minutes. Melt butter in frying pan and sauté lamb or ground beef. Remove meat from pan and pour off all but 2 tablespoons fat from the skillet and add onions. Cook onions until translucent. Add curry powder, sugar, salt and pepper and stir 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in lemon juice and bring to a boil. Add meat and stir. Set aside. Drain bread and squeeze dry. Reserve milk. Add bread, 1 egg, apple, raisins and almonds to meat mixture. Combine well and taste for seasoning. Pack into a baking pan. Tuck in lemon or bay leaves. Beat 2 eggs and milk. Pour over meat. Bake 30 minutes. Serve with rice. |
