Combine shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Refrigerate for at least one hour (can also be frozen and defrosted at a later time).
Roll out dough on a floured surface. Cut out in desired shapes. Bake at 400° on a cookie sheet for 6 to 8 minutes or until just starting to turn golden. Cool; then frost and decorate as desired.
