Brussel Sprouts Gratin - Recipe

This side dish is so delicious it will surprise everyone who tastes it. The nutty flavor of toasted topping adds so much.

Directions
  • Preheat broiler.
  • In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon from pan, reserving drippings; crumble.
  • In same skillet, increase heat to medium-high and saute shallots in the bacon drippings. Cook until tender, approximately 2 minutes.
  • Add Brussels sprouts and water; bring to a boil. Cover and cook until Brussels sprouts are almost tender, about 6 minutes. Uncover and remove from heat.
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper; toss to combine. Place mixture in a greased baking dish.
  • In the skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add breadcrumbs; saute until toasted, stirring frequently.
  • Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over Brussels sprouts. Broil 3 minutes or until golden and thoroughly heated.
