Hot Sausage Hoagies with Caramelized Apples and Onions - Recipe

Directions
  • Warm olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  • Cook the sausage links in the olive oil until browned.
  • Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the onions.
  • Cook the onions until translucent.
  • Stir in the apples, brown sugar and vinegar.
  • Gently stir the mixture while cooking until caramelized, approximately 15 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Place a split hoagie roll on a plate, top with a sausage link and some of the caramelized apple and onion mixture. Add some mustard and serve.

-16 ounces Premio Hot Italian sausage Links - thawed
-2 tablespoons butter
-1 large onion
-2 Granny Smith apples - cored, peeled and sliced into thin wedges
-3 tablespoons apple cider or rice wine vinegar
-2 tablespoons brown sugar - packed
- salt and pepper to taste
-4 hoagie rolls
